For 26 years of my life I thought the correct answer to that question was that if the Lord put all my good works on one side of His balances and all my bad works on the other side, my good works would outweigh the bad and I would be "good enough" to spend eternity in heaven. But then one Monday night in August of 1981, I heard the passage in Romans 6:23 that says the "wages of sin is death". I realized that if my good works could pay for my sins, then what Paul wrote in this verse was a lie. This put me in a terrible predicament for if death is the only payment that God would accept for my sins, then how could I live in eternity if I were dead? I realized that someone would have to die in my place in order to satisfy the wages of my sins. |
Fortunately, I also heard from the Bible that Jesus died for my sins, as well as the sins of the whole world. He died for your sins too! That night that I heard those words, I called unto God in prayer and asked Jesus to be my Savior. The Bible states in John 1:12, "As many as received Him, to them gave He power to be called the sons of God, even to them that believe on His Name." My friend, all the good works that you have done are not good enough to pay for your sins. Only by believeing solely in what Jesus did for you on Calvary's Cross will God be willing to receive you into His heaven. Being baptized is a good thing, but the wages of sin is not getting baptized; going a church is a good thing, but the wages of sin is not joining a church; trying to live a good life is a good thing, but the wages of sin is not trying to live a good life. The wages of sin is death, and dying is what Jesus did for you on the Cross. By believing that He died for your sins, call on Him today to save you. There is no other way to heaven ("Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name, under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."-Acts 4:12)
